W@Torrington provides writing support to students and faculty and is located in the Learning Center (room 21). We offer individual tutoring support for students at any stage of the writing process. Services for students include assistance with formal essays or other writing assignments, personal written tasks, or the more basic act of close reading as a preparation for writing. Whether you wish to organize your initial thoughts about an assignment or revise a final essay, or even ask a quick question about citation or word choice, a tutor is available to help you.

Although students are welcome to walk in and receive tutoring without an appointment, there is the risk that no tutors will be available at the time. Therefore, students are always encouraged to sign up for appointments. Please reserve a half-hour appointment on one of the signup sheets outside the Learning Center door.

We also encourage faculty to seek our support for writing issues.  We are happy to help with in-class presentations, tutoring for revision assignments, or  handouts.  We also provide a welcome environment for faculty to come chat with us about the teaching of writing.
